Climbing Again

Originally written on October 19, 2009.

It was time
For the ground
To finally
Break my fall
Was a long way
Down
From the peak
That top of tops
The view was great
Up there
Fantastic
All around
Left right forward back
Just beautiful
Even downward
Was special
I think I tripped
Or something
Falling head over
Not tumbling
Just falling
Out of control
The clouds didn’t
Hold me up
Went right through
Flailing arms failed
Without the right feathers
A bird joined me
For a while
Looked me in the eye
Pondering my method
Of flight
Found something better
To do
Left me on my way
Down to earth
A very long fall
Lasting longer
Than it should have
Hope no one heard me
Scream
Maybe I kept it in
Eventually
Tumbling off of this
And that
Then not splat
Thud
Somehow
Survived
World didn’t end
I’m scrapped and bruised
All bloodied up
I’ll heal again
It’s already begun
Sun rays piercing
Through the shadows
Of the clouds
Blotches of light
Scattered about
Picking myself up
Looking to the heavens
That peak is gone
Beyond my vision
Didn’t want to move
Laying for dead
Though not dying
Air feels fresh
In my lungs
On my skin
Naked to the world
Not the emperor
Just nothing to hide
Here is not right
Isn’t where I belong
Not where
I want to be
Can’t stay
Not welcome
Time to climb again
Find another peak
See something else
Taste something else
Find another smile
My own smile
A new smile
Enjoy a different view
Of this world
Or the one before me
There is no destination
Just another
Step by step by step
In my journey
Of my epiphany
Awareness
Acceptance
Open to the mystery
Willing to see
What is before me
Climbing is hard
Falling is harder
Not climbing again
Harder still
