we all need it
it's how society is wired
how we're judged
if you have enough of it
then you're pretty
handsome even
your faults get overlooked
because it's about what you have
and what you can give
it's not about yourself
who you are
your moral position
your lies and deceptions
but your money
or how much
you can make for me
those season tickets
may i have a seat
when did it happen
how did we get here
to this place
when did so many people fall
to the needs of the few
the haves versus the have nots
give a few dollars
to aid the needy
on one day
walk by them the next
on the street corner
turn your eyes away
avoid Medusa's stare
turn you to stone
to match your cold heart
Sunday morning Christians
then Monday's robber barons
will you help a fallen man
or call 911 while you video
for that you tube moment
when did it become convenient
to ignore the suffering
walk past the pain
avoid the ills not yours
why can we only yell
screaming louder
above the already deafening din
of disagreement
pro this and anti that
money is the root
of the tree
that can be evil
not for all
but surely for many
politicians sell their vote
for a donation
to their false cause
so they can promise
to keep another lie
corporations too big to fail
free enterprise is free for some
brutally expensive for others
if you aren't there to help
just to be there
who will be there
when it is you in need
i'll be there
for you the wealthy
and you the poor
when you are down
i will step forward
give you my blood
extend to you my hand
help you through it
get you to safe
despite your vile words
your cold promises
those incessant falsehoods
i will tend to you
from deep within my soul
bring you the peace
you deny me and others
know this
money can't
buy you that
