what a sight
a white rabbit
twitching its nose
wiggling its ears
and bright puffy tail
trying to start a fire
striking one flint
against another
creating sparks
it wasn't cold
no need for heat
yet there he was
making sparks
overhead
there was a rainbow
i became transfixed
arched across the sky
beautiful and brilliant
colors galore
turning into prisms
of raindrops
in a gentle mist
rabbit tapped me
on my shoulder
said "follow me"
then scampered away
hip hoppity hipping
turning after a bit
waving me on
for the journey
of a lifetime
"Do you trust me?"
with a twinkle
in his eye
trust a white rabbit
rainbow raining colors
down upon me
down upon me
where's the pot of gold
within drops of color
or among the sparks
still flying on their own
where am i going
he jumped and disappeared
into the ground
i followed
curiosity or discovery
why did the rabbit lead
me into the rabbits hole
then abandon me
lost to my own whim
falling far and deep
into the darkness
to find my own way
touching the bare walls
careful not to trip
bump my head
turning a dark corner
there he was
the rabbit returned
with a light for me
the sparks worked
handed me the torch
flame end first
igniting me in a flash
fire consuming me
and all around
lit up in flames
a brilliant fire
a conflagration
yet not burning
a heavenly warmth
what's feeding the flame
where is the fuel
not just me
had to engulf more than i
must be another
to be so bright
our flames dancing
together
the rabbit again asked
"Do you trust me?"
trust what
why
i'm on fire here
it's out of control
flames shooting high
flickering bits
dancing to a new song
never heard before
i see the rabbit too
dancing now
flames leaving on their own
journey
teardrops of fire
leaping upwards
to the heavens
where they were spawned
brilliant flames
orange and red
yellow and white
all shades in between
seen by all
no mystery
there are witnesses
it wasn't arson
though purposefully set
it raged on
engulfing me
consummating
transfiguring
releasing
liberating
simmering now
a final ember
dies
then darkness
no shadows within
nothing left to feed the fire
the gods have left
with the angels
seeking fuel elsewhere
the rabbit shrugged
we're where we began
looked up to the fading rainbow
then hopped away
leaving behind
a little flame
on the ground
it's a candle
wick burning steady
fed by the wax
still dark
yet i can see
from the light
there is still a light
i found the rabbits hole
it was fun
don't know how
i got out
where i am
nowhere to go
i'm stuck
deep in my head
cradling my heart
searching for color again
maybe i can find
a flint
